There are so many metal elements in a shower – from the shower head and taps, to shower caddies, shelving and the curtain rail. Mixing them with moisture and water every day can inevitably mean only one thing– dreaded RUST! No matter how stringent your cleaning processes are, it’s really hard to avoid. Read on for some top tips on how to rust proof your shower with a little help from WD-40.
Never underestimate the power of a squeegee! Whether you’ve got a shower screen, or a shower curtain, it’s important that all areas of the shower are wiped down after use. The easiest way to do this is with a squeegee! Test your window-cleaning skills to the max by pulling the squeegee across the shower door and tiled surfaces of the shower to remove standing water droplets.
And did you know, a quick once-over with a cloth sprayed with WD-40® Multi-Use Product can help to rust-proof your shower? Not only can it help to repel water from surfaces, it can also remove soap scum from shower doors. Always ensure you test a small amount of product on an inconspicuous area before using WD-40® on surfaces, and ensure you clean the area thoroughly after use to ensure it does not become a slip risk!
Equally as important as wiping down the curtain, is cleaning the rail the shower curtain runs on. This should be kept dry and free from dust and grime when the shower is not in use to prevent rust forming and inhibiting the free-travel of the curtain along the pole. If rust does form on the pole, simply take some WD-40® Multi-Use Product, apply to a clean cloth and rub over the area, loosening the rust and restoring the shine. It will also help to prevent the accumulation of further rust.
Regular care of your shower keeps the water fast-flowing! To rust proof your shower effectively, it’s really important to clean taps and shower heads regularly to prevent blockages that may inhibit the flow of water. Frequent cleaning will also help to prevent rust from forming on surfaces. Clean your shower heads often with an antibacterial bathroom spray and polish up. Pay particular attention to the shower hose too. The tight coils are easy places for moisture to get locked, and rust to form.
Trusty WD-40® Multi-Use Product is at hand to help loosen any rust from all of these areas and to restore the original shine. It also stops rust from reforming by acting as a water displacing barrier.
Once your shower has received a deep clean, it is all too easy to forget about the tiles on the walls. Using a tile cleaner solution and a small brush (such as a toothbrush), clean the grout between your bathroom tiles and any hard-to-get off soap scum. Use a clean sponge or microfibre cloth to polish the actual tiles to remove any soap, rust hard water stains.
