One common problem with fitting a new bathroom is that silicone sealant can end up in places it shouldn’t be! It can be frustrating having to remove silicone sealant from tiles, sinks and other surfaces. This quick and easy guide, will make the process easier and your surfaces will be free of any unwanted sealant in no time.
Firstly, prepare the area you will be working in. As you’ll be using tools and lubricant, make sure you remove any items from the area that you don’t want to get dirty or broken.
Before you start to remove silicone sealants, make sure that your working area and the silicone itself is dry, by using a cleaning cloth. Preparation like this will make the process easier and safer. If the area is wet, pat it down with a towel or rag or let it air dry. Once the area is dry, you’re good to go.
Spray WD-40 Multi-Use Product using the Smart Straw function onto the corner of the silicone sealant you want to remove. Allow the solution soak in – this may take a few minutes or a few hours. You just need to wait until the Silicone is soft enough to be removed easily.
Then, using a specialist sealant removal tool, pocket knife, or small utility knife start to loosen the sealant and then peel it off. If the sealant starts to stick as you are peeling it, spray more WD-40 Multi-Use Product onto it, using the smart straw for precision application. Be sure not to use too much force, as it may damage the surrounding area. You should wear protective gloves, for your own safety.
Now that you have removed the silicone sealant, make sure you dispose of the scraps properly. In addition, you’ll need to make sure you have cleaned up the WD-40 Multi Use lubricant. WD-40 is very good at removing silicone sealant, but just completely remove it from the surface before applying any new silicone sealant, as they may react together.
