Dealing with gym equipment is pretty similar to dealing with the human body! Just as our bodies need to be maintained well with regular exercise and a healthy diet, gym equipment needs the right amount of care and attention as well.
Metal parts are likely to develop rust over time, due to exposure to moisture. Most gym equipment is fairly expensive and you wouldn’t want it to get damaged due to unwanted rusting. So, make sure you check the metallic parts of your gym equipment on a regular basis to tackle any issues before they get worse.
Here are some simple steps to remove rust from your gym equipment.
Before you start to remove rust from gym equipment, make sure you clean the surfaces first. Removing rust from a clean device is easier and more effective. Take a moist microfiber cloth and wipe the surfaces of the equipment. Whether you are dealing with a bike, treadmill, bars and rollers, or gliding discs, dirt and grime will only add to your problem and make your job more tedious in the long run. Wait for the surface to dry before moving on to the next step.
If you are dealing with an electrical machine, make sure it is unplugged throughout the cleaning process.
Now you can remove the rust. Get yourself a can of WD-40 Multi Use Product from any hardware store or supermarket near you. Shake the can and spray it on the rusty areas of your gym equipment. Make sure that the rust is fully covered with the liquid.
Next, take a nylon bristled brush and give the rusty areas a good scrub. Then, wipe away with an old cleaning cloth. Although WD-40 Multi Use Product will often get the job done in one go, you may need to repeat the process, to remove all traces of rust.
Finally, spray sanitizer on all your equipment to keep it protected from dirt, germs, and viruses.
