It is important to maintain a treadmill and keep it in good condition. This will help to prolong its lifespan. However, it’s also a question of safety. A poorly maintained treadmill can quickly turn into a nightmare for the user, who could be injured.
To maintain a treadmill in top condition, you should ideally clean the mat after each use. To do this, firstly, take a damp cloth and wipe it over the entire machine, attending to areas in direct contact with perspiration. You can also use a disinfecting spray to do this. Next, every week or two, remember to dust your machine well so that dirt and dust do not clog the mechanism. To do this, use a vacuum cleaner or a duster.
Also be sure to keep a clean and healthy environment around the machine.
Inspect your treadmill regularly to maintain your safety when you use it. Check if all screws are still in place and tighten them if necessary. Following that, check that the belt is still aligned and centered (see video opposite). Finally, check that the tension of the tread is good. For this third check, please refer to step 4 below.
A key step, if you want to maintain a treadmill in good condition, is to keep it lubricated. First, unplug your device. Then, loosen the mat as directed in the manufacturer’s instruction manual. This allows you to lift the tape up to apply the lubricant. Shake the WD-40 Specialist Silicone Lubricant. Next, lift the strip on one side, and spray the product using the Double Position Spray. Repeat on the other side. Plug the device back in and turn it on at a slow speed to allow product to spread across the entire web. Finally, wipe off excess product from the sides of the product. It is important that the lubricant does not get on the top of the treadmill.
And There you go ! Repeat the operation every 3 months and your machine will have many good years to come.
Too much or too little tension is a risk for the machine and for the user. A tape that is too tight may tear, while a tape that is not tight enough will cause the front roller to slip. To adjust the tension, simultaneously tighten or unscrew the bolts located at the rear of the belt, left and right, using an Allen key.
Knowing how to maintain a treadmill is not as complicated as you might imagine. Remember:
No sweat!
