Rust may start small, but it can grow quickly and damage metal. A short amount of time is all it takes for rust to damage your cycle’s smaller metal components permanently.
Nevertheless, if you notice rust early and treat it properly, you can effectively get rid of rust and lessen the risk of it spreading and causing permanent damage.
To get rid of rust, first, carefully rub affected areas with a steel wool pad or sand paper. Even if you eliminate rust from part of the metal, it can continue to spread. But this will temporarily prevent further corrosion of the metal in the affected areas.
If the paint has chipped away from the metal, apply touch-up paint or fingernail polish to repair it. By painting the area, you will prevent air exposure and, therefore, rust.
Protect exposed metal, such as gears, chains, and brake cables, by applying WD-40 Multi-Use Product. Surfaces exposed to the air tend to rust more easily, but WD-40 can control oxidation. So, this will help not only to get rid of rust, but also prevent rust forming in the first place.
