The piercing sound of squeaky door hinges, creaking, every time somebody walks in and out of a room is infuriating. There are many reasons why you could have a squeaky door hinge. Friction in the hinge can be caused by a build-up of rust, dust, and debris, as well as a lack of lubrication. But don’t worry, WD-40 is here to help you. With this handy step-by-step guide on how to fix a squeaky door.
Firstly, it’s important to make sure no dust and muck have built up on your door hinges. Take a clean cloth and give the hinges a wipe-down to ensure they’re dirt-free when it comes to applying the product. You may want to wet your cloth when wiping down the hinges, it’s entirely up to you. However, make sure to dry the hinge afterward with a kitchen towel.
Next, take a paper towel and fold it in half. Place this underneath the hinge and hold it there. This will save any mess by catching any excess WD-40 product that may trickle down the door. Then, take your trusty can of WD-40 Multi Use Product Smart Straw and spray directly on the hinge. Once you have done this, wipe the hinge down with another paper towel.
Now, to help the WD-40 product work it’s way into the hinge, open and close the door a few times. This will help the formula to reach into all the tiny areas of the hinge that you may have missed.
Repeat this process on all the hinges as many times as necessary until the door is squeak free.
