It can be very irritating to hear a door squeaking. Sometimes it can feel like the noise follows you, all around the house! The good news is that it is not so difficult to fix a squeaky door.
The problem occurs if the door hinges are dirty, when they are poorly lubricated or if they have not been lubricated for a long time.
We will tell you how to fix a squeaking door in just a few quick steps.
WD-40® Multi Use Product
An old rag
A clean cloth
You need to know which of the hinges on the squeaky door is making the noise. Move your ear near to each of the hinges of the door and then slowly move it back and forth.
This way you will know which one of the hinges has the problem, or whether the problem is with all of them.
Take a clean piece of cloth and wipe the visible parts of the hinges to take off the dust from the outer surface. This is important, because you do not want any dust to enter the hinge and make the squeaking worse.
Grime is formed when dust keeps accumulating on the grease previously applied to the hinges. Removing this will make it easier for you to lubricate hinges and fix the squeaky door.
Spray ample amounts of WD-40 Multi-Use-Product on the hinges. It has excellent penetrating capabilities which will clean the grime from both the outside and the concealed parts of the hinges.
Just have an old rag ready to catch any drips and use the “smart straw” applicator to avoid getting it on nearby surfaces.
Once you are sure that the hinges are clean, you need to re-lubricate the hinges. Again, apply WD-40 Multi Use product liberally, to ensure the hinges stay lubricated and free of squeaks for a long time.
The final step is to test whether your fix has worked and the squeak has gone for good!
