Many things can can cause a garden gate to get stuck – like humid air or a sharp frost. Rust and mould can also take hold and cause further problems. So, it is important to know how to fix and lubricate a garden gate to keep it in working order.
The first thing that you need to do, to fix a garden gate, is to get all the debris and dirt off the door. Get a leaf blower and blast all the dirt away. Alternatively, scrub the door with a garden brush or scouring pad. Once you have cleared the door, give it a quick wet down with water.
Next step is to remove any rust from the door, especially the hinges. Apply WD-40 Multi Use Product and scrub off any rusty patches that you can see.
If the lock is stuck, then apply some WD-40 on it as well. The lubricant will loosen up the jammed parts. After applying, twist the lock and exert gentle force to open the door.
Once the door opens, close it and open it again. Do this a couple of times to ensure that the door is working fine.
Finally, to fix a garden gate and prevent it getting stuck in the future, don’t forget to lubricate the hinges. WD-40 will prevent rust from forming and keep the door working smoothly.
Keep a fluff-free cloth close to hand and wipe away any excess lubricant from the door when you have finished.
