Apart from being beautiful, gold is a soft metal, and therefore needs regular maintenance. Ideally, clean and polish gold jewellery one or two times a year. Avoid polishing too frequently, as this can damage the items.
First, take a bowl and fill it with warm water. Add small amounts of baking soda and dish soap. Next, place the gold in the mixture and leave it there for a few minutes.
Find a toothbrush with soft bristles for scrubbing the gold. Then, scrub the item gently. Do not apply too much pressure. Ensure that you scrub the crevices if any.
After scrubbing, run the gold under warm water. Make sure that all the mixture has been washed away. Examine the gold to see if there is any tarnish left.
Finally, use a soft cloth to wipe the gold dry. Avoid paper towels or products like that as they can leave scratches on the gold. Alternatively, let it dry in the air.
The final step to clean and polish gold jewellery is to wipe the gold article with a jeweller’s cloth or soft polishing cloth.
Then, apply WD-40 Multi-Use Product. WD-40 isn’t a specialist gold polish but it can help to protect and prolong the life of gold products, helping them to stay beautiful and shiny for longer.
Simply spray a clean dry cloth with WD-40 until it’s soaked, and then gently wipe your gold piece with the dampened cloth.
