We spend a great deal of time washing and cleaning our clothes, but all that good work can be ruined if we do not have an iron in perfect condition. This guide will provide tips on how to clean an iron and keep it in optimal working order.
To clean an iron properly, first, start with the water tank. This usually applies to irons without a water filter. Put ¼ cup of white vinegar in the water tank.
Next, turn on the iron at the maximum temperature. Let the steam escape and wait until the container is empty. Then fill again with distilled or purified water. Repeat the above process until you are sure the inside of the iron is clean
The second step is to clean the plate of the iron. Double check that the iron is unplugged and cool. Then simply apply a small amount of WD‑40® Multi-Use Product to a clean, dry cloth and give it a good rub. Repeat until the soleplate is clean and shiny. Be sure to use another clean cloth to remove any excess product before using the iron again, to avoid staining your clothes.
If the base or soleplate of your iron is burned, prepare a mixture with ¼ cup of white vinegar and ¼ cup of water. Next, moisten a rag in the mixture and sprinkle some baking soda on it. Finally, rub the burned areas of your iron, make sure it is unplugged and cold first, to avoid injuring yourself. Then, finish with WD-40 Multi Use Product, as in the previous step.
The steam holes are usually one of the most neglected parts when cleaning the iron. To do this, moisten some cotton swabs in water and clean each of the holes in turn.
