It’s important to clean a kitchen hood and maintain it regularly, if you want it to do a good job in extracting cooking smells and fumes. During the maintenance of the kitchen hood you should pay special attention to the filters, the inside of the hood itself as well as the bulbs.
To clean a kitchen hood, start with the filter. This may be metallic or made from synthetic material of various kinds. The metal filter can be washed with detergent and, after thorough drying, returned to its place. The synthetic type filter usually needs to be replaced, although there are some types that are washable. The frequency of replacement depends on the use of the kitchen and the type of filter installed: it is advisable to refer to the maintenance manual of the hood you own.
The inside of the hood can also get dirty with grease and must be thoroughly cleaned. Degreasing sprays can be used, which are left to act and then removed with sponges, rags or paper. WD-40 Specialist Fast Acting Degreaser is very effective here. Spray onto the surface, wait for a few minutes and then wipe off with cloths or paper towels. Afterwards, wash down with a regular detergent or dish soap and then allow to dry.
Replace any broken bulbs. If required, you can use WD-40 Specialist Contact Cleaner on the lamp housings and on any reachable electrical contacts.
